Possible causes |
Ways of avoiding it |
---|---|
Wrong use of solvent |
If it is slightly separated, adding the suitable solvent, slowly and shaking it constantly may give satisfactory results |
The paint has been subject to cold and hot conditions |
Store the material at the temperature indicated in the specifications. If the separation is produced by excessive heat or cold, the system to use is similar to the one used in e) |
Excessive dilution |
The specific instructions must be followed for an adequate dilution. If the material has excessive dilution, many a time the addition of paint will return the lot to its normal state. |
The paint thinner has been added too quickly without shaking it sufficiently |
Add the paint thinner slowly, shaking constantly. |
Natural oxidation of the paint if the container is left open for a certain period |
If the oxidation is not very serious, the paint will return to its normal condition by adding the necessary amount of paint thinner and new paint. Usually, choosing a stronger paint thinner is better than the first one recommended |
Note: if the paint is mostly separated, it may not be possible to restore it for use.
